Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation
The Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation is dedicated to advancing research, raising awareness, and promoting prevention of childhood type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Our mission is to empower children to lead healthier lives through education, proper nutrition, and regular exercise.
Founded in 2009 by legendary six-time world champion Sugar Ray Leonard and his wife, Bernadette, the Foundation is inspired by Sugar Ray's personal experiences watching his father and friends navigate the challenges of diabetes. Their struggles highlighted the urgent need for solutions and support.
Type 1 diabetes, a condition that can affect children and adults at any age, requires lifelong management and poses severe health risks. Meanwhile, the rise in childhood type 2 diabetes underscores the importance of addressing lifestyle factors like obesity.
Drawing on the discipline, resilience, and determination that defined his boxing career, Sugar Ray Leonard brings his fighting spirit to the battle against diabetes, working to fund impactful research and inspire a healthier future for all children.
